Frequently Asked Questions
We know bringing a puppy into your home is a big decision. Here are some of the questions families ask us most often—answered with love and transparency.
Why choose Storycrest Cavaliers?
Because we believe every puppy begins a story. At Storycrest Cavaliers, we raise one litter at a time in our family home, surrounded by love, laughter, and daily life. As a stay-at-home mom with school-aged children, I am with the puppies full-time, giving them constant attention and early socialization. Our goal is not just to place puppies, but to carefully match them with families who will continue their story with the same love and care we began.
How do you raise your puppies?
Our puppies are born and raised in the heart of our home. They are handled daily, exposed to children, and introduced to the sights and sounds of family life. This helps them grow into confident, affectionate companions ready to thrive in their forever homes.
What kind of health testing have you done?
Zoey is AKC registered and has completed multiple levels of health testing, with results published through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA):
OFA Advanced Cardiac – Normal
OFA Eyes – Normal
OFA Patellas – Normal
DNA panel – Clear for Cavalier-specific conditions
We are proud of these results and remain committed to responsible breeding practices. Puppies will also go home with veterinary records, and up-to-date vaccinations.
What about the sire (father)?
The sire was carefully selected for health, temperament, and structure. He is AKC registered with a show background, and we partnered with his owner to ensure he was an excellent match for Zoey and this litter.
How does your waitlist work?
We operate on a waitlist system to keep the process fair and organized. Families are added to the list once their application is approved and their deposit is received. When puppies are ready for selection, families choose in the order of the waitlist.
Storycrest Cavaliers reserves the right to first pick of any litter before waitlist selections begin. This helps us continue our program thoughtfully, while still honoring the waitlist order for all other families.
How are puppies matched with families?
While families ultimately choose their puppy in waitlist order, we do our best to guide the process. Each family completes a short “Getting to Know You” intake, which helps us understand your lifestyle, household, and what you’re looking for in a Cavalier. As puppies grow, we share observations of their personalities and help point families toward the puppies that may be the best fit. This way, every puppy is set up to thrive in their forever home, and families feel confident in their choice.
How much are your puppies?
Our puppies are placed in approved companion homes for $1,900 - $2,400. This reflects the health testing, veterinary care, nutrition, and countless hours of daily attention we invest in giving them the best possible start.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. A non-refundable $500 deposit is required to hold your spot on our reservation list. This deposit goes toward the final purchase price and ensures we are matching puppies with committed families.
Will my puppy come with papers?
Yes. Puppies are sold with AKC registration paperwork. Unless otherwise agreed upon, all puppies are placed in loving companion homes with a spay/neuter agreement.
When can puppies go home?
Puppies are ready to go home between 9–12 weeks of age. This extra time with their mother and littermates helps them grow well, develop proper social skills, and build confidence before leaving for their new homes. We understand the wait can feel long, but it ensures your puppy will be healthier, happier, and truly ready for a smooth start with your family.
Can we visit the puppies before they are ready to go home?
For the health and safety of our puppies, we do not allow in-home visits before they are vaccinated. Young puppies are especially vulnerable to illnesses such as Parvo, which can be carried in unknowingly on shoes or clothing. Protecting them is our top priority.
That said, we keep families closely involved throughout the process. We provide regular photo and video updates so you can watch your puppy grow. Families are welcome to meet us in person at pick-up (or at an agreed meet-up location), and we’re always available to answer questions along the way.
Where are you located? Do you offer delivery or transport?
We are located in Central Kentucky. Whenever possible, we love for families to come meet us in person — both to pick up their puppy and to see where their puppy was raised. We are also happy to drive up to one hour from our home at no cost. For meet-ups between one and three hours from Lexington, Kentucky, we can accommodate for an additional fee. For families beyond driving distance, we can help arrange a trusted flight nanny who will personally accompany your puppy in-cabin; this service is also available for an additional fee. We do not ship puppies via cargo.
What will come with my puppy?
Each Storycrest Cavalier puppy goes home with:
Veterinary record of vaccinations and deworming
AKC registration paperwork
A comfort blanket with their litter scent
Starter food
A small welcome gift to begin your new chapter together
How do I apply for a puppy?
To begin the process, simply reach out to us. We’ll invite you to complete a short “getting to know you” form so we can learn about your family, lifestyle, and what you’re hoping for in a Cavalier. From there, we’ll share the approximate timeframe when a puppy that matches your preferences may be available. A $500 non-refundable deposit then secures your place on our waitlist — a way for us to know you’re committed and for you to know a puppy will be held just for your family.
